BURUNDI/ Land tenure security component of the PRRPB programme: a socially useful project

Implementation of the land certification component of the PRRPB (Projet de Restauration et de Résilience du Paysage du Burundi – Burundi Landscape Restoration and Resilience Project) involved 26 hills. Over 105,000 hill surveys were carried out in Buhinyuza, Isare and Matongo. The production of more than 103,000 land certificates, with a particular focus on women and vulnerable groups.
Over 70% of the land certificates produced now bear the names of women. In addition, more than 100,000 people have been made aware of land certification through meetings and talks organised in the villages. This is helping to improve the current land management situation in Burundi, with greater social cohesion, productivity and investment.
In addition to the direct impact of the project on the beneficiaries, the project has also made a major contribution to changing the lives of the employees who took part in the mission.
