Senegal/ PGIIS project: impact of flooding on Kolda and Kedougou

The presentation of the results of the Integrated Flood Management Project (PGIIS) in the Kolda area brought together all the stakeholders at the end of January. The mapping of the flood risk in the area models a statistical risk. It is an awareness-raising tool for integrating flood risk into all future actions, based on the data produced. Particularly when it comes to approving building permits for future residents. The 8 o’clock news on 2STV, Senegal’s second largest television channel, ran a report entitled “Kolda: 900 km2 threatened by flooding” – in French.

Senugox.info also relayed the information, focusing on Kedougou/Impacts of flooding: “losses in the agricultural sector exceed two billion” (DPGI) (in French)  and concludes with the words of the head of the regional executive: “the project will not only enable better planning of activities and development, but also good land management”.

The Integrated Flood Management Project, financed by the Green Climate Fund and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), is being carried out by the IGN FI/BRLi consortium.
